It’s easy for people to admire Finn for his size, his striking black and white coat, or his long beautiful mane and tail, but neither of those are what make him truly special.
What makes Finn unforgettable is his heart.
Finn has a way of making everyone feel safe and loved. Whether he’s greeting us at the gate, standing patiently while he’s groomed or quietly soaking up every scratch or cuddle, he has a gentle spirit that’s impossible not to love.
Some horses demand attention. Finn simply earns it.
Watching such a big horse with my petite daughter has been one of life’s greatest joys. There is a quiet trust between them that wasn’t built overnight. Like any partnership, Finn tested Kalley in the beginning. He wanted to know if she would be a leader he could trust, and she had to learn how to earn his respect.
Together, they grew.
Today, watching them ride together feels effortless. They understand one another in a way that’s hard to explain. It’s the kind of partnership that only comes from time, patience, and countless hours spent together.
One of the clearest signs of that trust is watching Finn follow Kalley. He doesn’t always need a lead rope. She simply starts walking, and he quietly follows behind her. He isn’t doing it because he has to – he’s doing it because he trusts her. It’s a privilege to witness, especially knowing that he doesn’t do that with just anyone.
That same trust shows in other ways, too. If Kalley falls, Finn doesn’t panic or walk away. He stops, careful not to step on her, and simply waits until she’s okay and ready to climb back into the saddle. Moments like that remind us just how gentle and kind he truly is.
When you look into Finn’s eyes, there’s something almost magical about them. For just a moment, the rest of the world seems to disappear. They have a softness that melts your heart and makes you want to wrap your arms around his neck and stay there forever.
Some horses are beautiful.
Some horses are talented.
Some horses are athletic.
Finn is all of those things.
But what makes him unforgettable isn’t what he looks like or what he can do.
It’s the enormous heart he shares with everyone lucky enough to know him.
